Maryam Henein is a journalist, filmmaker and entrepreneur. She directed the documentary Vanishing of the Bees and is founder of HoneyColony.com.A native of Montreal, Canada, Henein is of Canadian-Egyptian heritage. Henein broke the news story regarding Dodi Fayed’s imposter and interviewed documentarian Morgan Spurlock for Penthouse, as well as produced documentaries for the UK’s September Films on subjects that include pimps, drug dealers and porn stars in the Los Angeles area. She was also part of First Apartment, a reality show webcast in the late 90s and early 2000s on the now-defunct website crushedplanet.com, produced by Taxicab Confessions Joe and Harry Gantz.In 2002 Henein was hit by a car and dragged 50 feet down Melrose Avenue. She broke her left femur, tailbone, L1 vertebrae and several ribs. The injuries necessitated a 14-inch titanium rod outfitted into her leg (which she later had removed because of her research).During this time, she researched issues of health and nutrition to help her in her recovery and stumbled onto news items about colony collapse disorder.
